It took me a while to find the words but praise be to God they are here. Mr. Lee was truly a treasure to me and my family. I shall never forget the care he took in training our dear Hope to become an even greater pianist for the Lord. He was indeed a friend of our family. The Late Rev. William Scott, Hope Elizabeth and I. Now he is resting with them in glory. The Lord bless and keep his family, friends and many who knew and loved him. We will miss his melodious playing of the organ and piano, his laughter and genuine sense of humor. My sincere condolences to Sister Alice Reid and the Lee Family and Sister Brown. Forever Grateful, Evangelist Ellen R. Scott, Laveen, Arizona

I will remember many good things about Mr. Lee. He had me to accompany him by playing the piano for the school choir at times. That was inspiring. He told me I was a second soprano not and alto. He was always to the point and correct every time. I will always remember his candid demeanor. I am extending prayers and sympathy to the family.

My deepest sympathy. He was one of the best musician I ever met. King & Queen Central was never the same after Mr. John Lee left. When I attend local parades or concerts, I always think of how Central's band use to rock when he was there. His memories will live on. RIP Mr. John Lee

Mr. Lee was a very special man and music teacher. Whenever I saw him after many years, I will never forget how his face lit up with a smile. He formed a quartet of Donald Epps, DuPont Smith, Cordery Morris and myself and, believe it or not, we went to the State Finals in 1964. He made all of his students feel like they were the most important person in the world. We will miss your presence Mr. Lee, but the songs of life you taught us will remain in our hearts. May you rest in peace.

John Horace Lee was so important to my family, and his musical genius defines his immortality. He and my sister, Jackie Polson Prater, successfully collaborated on so many musical events; my parents, Thea and Grady Polson, spoke of him with admiration, awe and respect; and I consider him to be one of the most gifted and talented human beings who nonetheless was humble, modest and compassionate. Rest in peace.

My mentor, my teacher and my friend; All describes what Mr. John H. Lee has meant to me. From the 7th grade at King and Queen Elementary and throughout my life, Mr. Lee has been that constant part of my life. All the great choir and band productions that we had with little to no money, Mr. Lee used his own funds to make sure that it was the best. He exposed us to all the different genres of music to insure that his students were well rounded individuals. When we took the field during the halftime of a football game, marched in a parade or took the stage for a competition, they knew that King and Queen Central was in the house and was going home with the trophy or a superior rating. The Heavenly Choir was in need of the best director and musician, so God chose Mr. Lee. Take your rest. We love you, but God loves you best. Save a place for me in the alto section.
With a heavy heart and much love,

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Lee's passing. We respected him very much as our minister of music at Mount Nebo. Mr. Lee directed our choir years ago at my former church in more than one Christmas Cantada. We enjoyed working with him. Love and peace to his family and our Mt. Nebo family as well.

To the Family of Mr. John Horace Lee:

My former teacher, mentor and friend, that's how I view Mr. Lee who I met for the first time in September 1960 (this was to be the CHS Class of 1961). He was our English teacher and he explained his focus for the class would be the writing of themes. Some of us "moaned a bit" but life's journey has proven that his class would be one of the best classes we could have taken. Many thanks to him for his guidance even on the area I elected to major in when I attended college (Virginia State University). One theme topic "Procrastination is the thief of time" continues to have great meaning in my life today. And yes, even my children and grandchildren have heard about that topic.

Clearly, we will all miss Mr. Lee, and the memories of him will long endure. Our prayers are extended for the comfort of other friends and family. And we express love and good wishes through our common faith and belief that we will meet him again. May he rest in peace.

On behalf of the Central High School Class of 1961(Secretary); the Southside Rappahannock Baptist Association (Moderator); my wife Annie Pollard(Co- worker of Mr. Lee at Central High); and both of us (Alumni of Virginia State University.
