Joy Widgeon Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Joy Anna Widgeon, 47, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2004. Born in Edenton, N.C., on July 12, 1956, she was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Harrison Stevenson. Joy was a member of First Friends Church and loved her Witness by encouraging others to know the Lord. She received her bachelor's degree from Elizabeth City State University. Joy taught at Edgecombe Community College prior to moving to the Peninsula seven years ago. Joy leaves to cherish her memories her father and stepmother, Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Stevenson of Nashville, Ill.; her husband, William K. Widgeon of Newport News; two sons, Anthony Thomas Tadlock and his wife, Shannon, of Rocky Mount, N.C., Allan Joseph Tadlock of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two brothers, Gary Michael Stevenson and his wife, Pamela, of Fuquay Varina, N.C., David Alan Stevenson of Morganton, N.C.; a grandson, Collin Anthony Tadlack of Rocky Mount, N.C. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral for Joy will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at First Friends Church. Burial will follow in Hertford, N.C. Friends are encouraged to visit www.mem.com to share words of comfort to the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wakefield Friends Camp. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue in Hampton.

Joy, I will miss you so much,You have been a blessing to me since reconnecting with you at Wakefield reunion 8 years ago.I know your up in Heaven Singing harmony with the Angels and Praising Jesus.

I know that Joy is in heaven singing and praising our LORD. What an awesome thought!

We can take comfort in knowing that we will meet her again. Joy was a very sweet woman, we shared much.

Willie, I hope you know how much Joy loved you, my heart goes out to you; please know that I will keep you in my prayers. Our deepest sympathies to all of Joy's family.
