Judith Clardy Obituary

With regret, we announce Judith Clardy passed away 29 June at Warwick Forest in Newport News, VA. She passed peacefully in her sleep while under hospice care. Judith was born Judith Lewis Davis July 16, 1925, at home in Arlington. She grew up when Arlington still had full time farmers and saw it grow with multiple trolley and bus services. While attending Patrick Henry High School, she saw the U.S. enter WWII, the Pentagon and much of what we see today in Washington D.C built. She attended Mary Washington College, started her lifetime in Eastern Star work and made the leap to the big city working for RCA in New York. Marrying, she moved back to live in Washington and worked for the federal government. The family bought a house in Springfield, VA, with the sales brochure listing insulation, Plextone wall finish, copper piping, with sewer, gutters, sidewalks and streets included, for $14,500. Judith stayed active in the Episcopalian Church, Eastern Star and raised three children. When her husband's job moved to Louisiana, they settled in Slidell. They both worked for the Naval Oceanographic office in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi; at the same base NASA was testing the Space Shuttle engines. Judith stayed active in church work, such as the Altar Guild and other community services, including the Mardi Gras float Crewe. After retirement, they returned to Springfield, eventually moving to a retirement community in Newport News, VA, Warwick Forest. She kept an engaged mind throughout her stay, always forming bridge teams, going on field trips (including setting up an outing to Hooters) and donating to charity. She continued to stay informed, opinionated and actively discussing the world. Her last full words (before passing days later) were "That Trump, he's a real &*$%, isn't he?" Many visited her over the last weeks and she was happiest seeing them. To the end, she was a member of the Hancock clan and could detail all the family tree. She was predeceased by her husband, William; her sister, Elizabeth and her granddaughter, Nicole. She is survived by her sister, Lilla; daughter, Elisabeth; sons, Robert and his wife, Elizabeth and William; granddaughters, Judith and Jennifer and her husband, Gage; and grandsons Ian, Logan, and Nathaniel. We thank the staff at Warwick Forest: Melinda, Chenille, Gina, Kerry, Hortense, Susan and many, many others there for their support and kindness to Mom for over a decade. We also are grateful to Mom's outside physician, Dr. Apostolos Hiotellis, who's outstanding care added years to her life. They met during his residency, and after scaring each other during a hospitalization, she became one of his first and longest patients. Mom was a joy to our lives; she will be sorely missed. Services will be at Warwick Forest in Burton Hall, 850 Denbigh Blvd, Newport News, VA, Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St George's Episcopal Church, Newport News. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.

I had the privilege to be a nurse to Judith for many years. She was a wonderful person. I know she will be deeply missed. I have often thought of her since leaving Warwick Forest and missed her. She stood out as one of our residents. My condolences to her family...Susan Reed

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

My condolences to the family. May the peace of God and the fond memories you cherish comfort and sustain you in your time of need.
