Julia P. Pope

SUFFOLK - Julia P. Pope, 95, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Irene and Willie J. Powell. She was predeceased by her husband John Thomas "JT" Pope, Sr. and a son E. Lemuel Pope. Julia was a Cub Scout den mother, she was also their little league baseball coach with Johnny and Stan on the team and Lennie as the batboy, and together they won the City Championship. Julia was an avid sports fan and loved her St. Louis Cardinals; she was also a member of Oxford United Methodist Church. Julia is survived by her sons John T. Pope Jr and wife Joyce of Smithfield, and G. Stan Pope and wife Charlene of Waverly; grandchildren Michelle P. Lawrence, Tommy Pope, Andy Pope, Allison P. Cooper, Justin Pope, Grey Pope and Cord Pope and twelve great-grandchildren; and her brother Russell L. Powell. A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 11 AM in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery at 1549 Holland Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434 by the Rev. Paul E. Martin. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorial donations may be made to Oxford United Methodist Church, 601 W.
