Kacie Alyse Goodwin

SEAFORD - Our precious princess angel, Kacie Alyse Goodwin, was welcomed into heaven with opened wings on Saturday, April 27, 2002. At only 8 years old, Kacie touched thousands of hearts around the world during her courageous journey against a rare genetic illness known as Fanconi Anemia. During her illness in Minneapolis, Minn., over the last seven and a half months, Kacie affected the lives of so many doctors and nurses. She amazed them with several miracles when she was faced with severe medical complications during her bone marrow transplant process. Kacie and our family were extremely blessed by the love of an unknown 26 year old female who was a perfect bone marrow match. The donor not only gave of her bone marrow, but when Kacie struggled with more illness, she graciously gave more stem cells to strengthen Kacie's immune system. Kacie was a member of Seaford Baptist Church and participated in Kid's Praise and Awanas. She attended Grafton Bethel Elementary School, in Mrs. Matheson's 3rd grade class. She had earned her Jr. Purple belt in karate and was on the competition sparring team at Vernon Mason's Karate Studio. Kacie was a cheerleader for the Seaford Bulldogs in the York County Recreation Football League, and was an active Brownie member. Kacie brought lots of smiles and giggles to everyone she knew and met and now she brings them up to heaven. It brings us joy that Kacie has been united with her heavenly father and that her spirit will always be our guardian angel and the wind beneath our wings. Kacie leaves to cherish her memories to her father and mother, Donald R. and Katherine D. George Goodwin; her sister, Erin Nicole Goodwin of the home; maternal grandparents, O. Samuel and Jeanette W. George of York County; paternal grandmother, Norma M. Faulkner of Hampton; maternal great-grandmother, Ruth W. Bouwman of North Carolina; her uncle and aunt, Dan and Debbie Feick and cousin, Zachary, and her uncle, Scott George, all of Newport News; her uncle, Eddie, and aunt, Micki Long, and cousins, Dean and Russell of California, aunt Idelle Hamilton, and cousins, Brent and Elizabeth, South Carolina; Uncle Zeb and Aunt Darlene Goodwin, and cousin, Ryan, of New Baltimore, Va.; uncle Wendell and Aunt Sherri Goodwin, and cousins Wendi and Melissa of North Carolina and Uncle Treb and aunt Jill Faulkner and cousins Morgan and Haley of Tennessee. A Celebration of Life was conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Seaford Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Richard D. Harrell officiating with burial in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Kacie Goodwin Memorial Fund, PO Box 1292, Yorktown, VA 23692-2182. The Goodwin family is extremely grateful to everyone who followed Kacie's Krusade and offered their love and support and many prayers.
