The memories of my cousin Ken go back to our childhood. Our mothers were two of the four Rooks sisters. We visited Virginia every summer so the four Rooks girls, their spouses and children could get together. Our families would all congregate at one house and the cousins slept on the floor while the parents got the beds. Sometimes there were so many of us the dads would sleep in the cars. My childhood has a host of fond memories of those summer days our families ( aunts, uncles, cousins) spent together.
As we grew older Ken and I still kept in touch. My Dad, AD, would visit Ken and Pam often and go out on their boat. On these visits Ken and Dad would fish at a special spot where Old Blue( the Heron) would hang out and eat their bait.
On one visit , Dad, Randy and I were sitting at Ken and Pams kitchen table and someone mentioned the Hatteras light house was being moved. Next thing I know we were in the car and headed to Cape Hatteras for one of those spontaneous adventures.
The year my dad passed away Ken and Pam came up to stay with me. They spent two entire days at the hospital. I was so grateful for that visit because I knew Dad and Ken had a very special bond and he lifted my Dads spirits.
After Dad died, Ken and I continued our visits. He was the best host ,always taking me around town to show me the sights, places from our childhood and where he and Pam married. Ken was full of life, always had a smile and never lacked for conversation. I miss him and will hold him in my heart.
