POQUOSON - Lillie Butler Freeman, 95, former owner of Freeman's Florist in Poquoson with her son, Paul, and daughter, Joyce Tracy, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, singing within her heart, "What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see; and I look upon His face – the one who saved me by His grace . . . " (Ben Spear, 1955)

Freeman; her daughter, Lillie F. Benton; her parents, Julia Smith and J. Garrett Butler; her brothers, Boyd C. Butler and G. Joseph Butler; and her sister, Julia B. Presson.
She leaves to rejoice at her presence during this life and to grieve at her going, her daughter, Joyce F. Tracy; her son, B. Austin Freeman, Jr. and wife, Melba; five grandchildren, Paulette B. Holloway and husband, Kenny, E. DeeVee Green and husband, Vernon, Connie T. Andre and husband, Nick, Timothy A. Freeman and wife, Donna, and R. Kelly Freeman. In addition, she leaves 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Etta B. Thompson; a son-in-law, Paul Benton; and many nieces and nephews. Family was a cornerstone of her life. She relished the time spent with all of her family and friends.
Living in Poquoson for over 78 years, Mrs. Freeman was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church and the Joyful Hearts Choir, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Besides her love of flowers and cardinals, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting.
The family will receive friends tonight, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, and other times at 13 Carroll Drive, Poquoson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emmaus Baptist Church by Pastor John Pouchot and the Rev. Milford Rollins. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.

Family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother. My father was Donald Butler Wainwright and my grandmother was Eunice, sister of Garrett Butler, as a child I remember going to Mrs Julia's house for dinner and I remember she really liked to feed people. I also remember Austin from my 2 years at Poquoson High before we moved to York High. I always heard of Lillie from mother and daddy ( both deceased) they thought so much of her. She lived a long life but even at that it is so hard to let them go.

My prayers are with you as you grieve over Nannie's passing. I know she will be dearly missed. How many times did I see her sitting in her chair at the florist, keeping a watchful eye over things! She was a great lady. Mama Joyce, if I can do anything, please let me know. I'm but a phone call away. Our loving sympathy to you all,
Susie & Dean
