Louise T. Mozingo

Louise T. Mozingo, 91, passed away on Wednesday January 3, 2024. She was born in Selma, NC to the late Frank and Rosa Thornton. Louise was a graduate of Selma High School and the Cosmetology School of Virginia. She moved to Newport News in 1951 and married Roy Mozingo in June of 1953. Louise was a teacher at the Preschool Center located in the Trinity Lutheran School for 20 years. She was active at Trinity Lutheran Church serving on the Board and as a Trustee. She supervised the Sunday School education program and served on the Board of the school as well. Louise was a member of James River County Club. Upon her retirement, she became an avid golfer there and served as the President of the Women's Golf Association. She was an active Bridge player and a member of two different morning bridge groups.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Mozingo; sisters, Alice Bright, Geraldine Hunt, Donnie Ruth Lane, and Evelyn Jenkins and brothers, Herbert Thornton, F.B. Thornton, and Jerry Mac Thornton. Louise is survived by her brother, Gene Thornton (Esther); sister, Betty Lee Starbuck (Dale); daughters, Beverly Goodman (Dale) and Brenda Chenault; grandson, Cameron Goodman, and granddaughters, Galen Stewart (Taylor) and Madeline Klajnbart (Jared).

Louise was a member of James River County Club. Upon her retirement, she became an avid golfer there and served as the President of the Women's Golf Association. She was an active Bridge player and a member of two different morning bridge groups.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
