Lula ARTIS Obituary

SUFFOLK - Lula Mae Artis, 76, of Adriane Court, Suffolk, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, in Autumn Care Nursing Home.
She was a native of Ahoskie, N.C., and the daughter of the late Joseph Richard Sessoms and Rose Bud Sessoms. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Artis Sr.
She was a member of Zion Christian Church, where she was a member of the Pastor's Aide, Kitchen staff and Women's Fellowship. She joined Zion Church at an early age and was a faithful member to the church until her health failed.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Linda Mae Artis, Rosa Diane Artis and Janice Irene-White, all of Suffolk; two sons, Robert Sessoms and Rufus Artis Jr. (Mable), both of Suffolk; one sister, Mary L. Riddick of Suffolk; one brother, Johnny Sessoms of Suffolk; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at Zion Christian Church, officiated by the Rev. Ben Fitzgerald III. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Zion Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Rufus and Mable Artis, 6713 Peanut Drive, Suffolk.
