Manuel Chrisogonou Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Manuel 'Chris' Chrisogonou, 79, passed away on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006. A native of Scranton, Pa., he had been a Peninsula resident since 1986. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a retired chef. He was also a member of Menchville Baptist Church. Mr. Chrisogonou was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Chrisogonou, and his first wife, Pauline. Survivors include his wife, Rosamond M. Chrisogonou; son, George Chrisogonou and his wife, Betty, of Syracuse, N.Y.; two stepsons, Ted Eckert and his wife, Betty, of Newport News, and Richard Eckert and his wife, Teresa, of Richmond, Calif.; six grandchildren, David, Kim, Amy, Bethany, Jenna, Kara and Elliot; one great-grandson, Colin; a sister, Catherine Chrisogonou of Syracuse; and his special nephew, Steven Alward and his wife, Bonnie, and their children, Brock and Sophia. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 o'clock at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Menchville Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. James C. Weston Jr. Burial will follow in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
