Marcel Fincher Obituary

Marcel Andriette Fincher, beloved wife, mother, and sister passed away peacefully from cancer on March 5, 2021, surrounded by family at her home. She was born October 28, 1958, to Cameron and Mary Fincher, and grew up in Athens, Georgia. She graduated from Clarke Central High School and the University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She participated in the University of Georgia's Study Abroad program in Cortona, Italy, an experience that greatly influenced her art and sparked her love of international travel. She later earned a Master of Education Degree from Georgia State University. Marcel's adventurous spirit led her to accept a teaching position with the Department of Defense at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. There, she met her future husband, Major James Nelson Dibble (ret.), to whom she was married for 33 years. She and Jim lived a full life of travel, new experiences, and friendships. Marcel enthusiastically embraced each new assignment both in the U.S. and abroad. The couple made friends everywhere they lived and expanded their family with the birth of daughter, Lauren and son, Taylor. Eventually, the family settled in Yorktown, Virginia, where Marcel taught art at Poquoson Elementary School until her retirement in 2018. Marcel was a voracious reader and a talented artist who never stopped expanding her skills and exploring new mediums. She enjoyed painting, sketching, ceramics, and printmaking. She was equally at ease as the life of a large party or spending quiet time at home with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Lauren Bradshaw (Alex); and son, Taylor. She is also survived by siblings, Matt Fincher, Mandy (Tim) Montijo, Melissa Fincher; nephews, Matthew, Jackson and Andrew Montijo; and many cousins. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance or the Poquoson Education Foundation, Inc.

Jim, Matt, Mandy, Melissa... I was looking up Marcel on FB to tell her that I was taking down the Christmas tree + counting the b´ful ornaments she´d given me over the years. So sad to learn of her passing last March. Also sad that you´ve lost Mary + Cameron as well. Your family always felt like my 2nd one in GA and often I think fondly of the Finchers. Am unfortunately another member of the lost parents club. A membership no one wants. God bless you. Love you. Cherish our time together. Regret not being there for Marcel these past years. Liz

I was so sad to see that Marcel had died from cancer. Dr. Fincher was so very proud of her, and in later years, appreciated her adventurous spirit.
I know Jim, Lauren, and Taylor will miss her greatly.
