LOCUST HILL - Myrtle Virginia Blake Davis Faulkner, 91, of Locust Hill passed away Friday, September 30, 2016. Myrtle was the owner and operator of Mizpah Health Care Center from 1969 until 2015. She was a life member, historian and former organist of Harmony Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees. She served as a member of The Advisory Board on Aging, Commonwealth of Virginia Statewide Health Coordinating Council and The Governor's Advisory Council. Myrtle was also a member of The American Health Care Association, Virginia Health Care Association and received the National Award from HUD for high performance in 2000. She was a member of the Oriental Chapter No. 30 O.E.S., Mathews County and the Garden Club of Middlesex County. Myrtle was a life member of the Middlesex County Woman's Club, Urbanna and the Red Hat Society. She was the widow of John D. Davis, Sr. and Charles William Faulkner, Sr. Survived by her daughters, Martha D. Cotttingham (Don) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ann Carleton Davis Gresham of Locust Hill; her son, John Dallas Davis, Jr. (Mary Ann) of Locust Hill. Five step-children; Jeanne F. Ames (John) of Bowling Green, Susan Lee Bailey (Frank) of Chesterfield, Shannon Kay Faulkner also of Chesterfield. Charles W. Faulkner, Jr. (Joanie) of King William, Gregg C. Faulkner (Valerie) of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Nell Weston of Deltaville and June Edwards of Northern Virginia. Ninteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, October 3, 2016 from 6 until 8 p.m. in the Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in Harmony Grove Baptist Church, Topping. Burial will follow in the Middlesex Memorial Cemetery, Urbanna. Memorial donations may be made to Harmony Grove Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or to the Bell Choir P.O. Box 138, Topping, VA 23169 and or to Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue P.O. Box 98, Deltaville, VA 23043.

Charles and family,
I know that this is a very difficult time. It's never easy to lose someone you love but God promises us that we will see our loved ones again and that you will see Myrtle again. Until then may your hearts be filled with the wonderful memories of joyful times spent together as you celebrate a life well lived. Please accept my condolences.

Miss Myrtle help take such good care of us during our wonderful times with Gma Talley at the Rivah! Our hearts go out to her family and especially Clipper. We have such fond memories to cherish till we join her. The PA Heilmans

I visited Miss Myrtle just over a week ago because I had important things to say to her. She was quiet and reserved but very attentive to me during our time together. I thanked her for giving me the opportunity some 40 years ago to begin a lifetime career which resulted in a life so fulfilling and useful that it had to have fulfilled my grandmothers prophesy for me as a teen and God's direction for me that I would spend my life loving and caring for the fraile and elderly.
When I appeared on the scene at Mizpah, the only position I was qualified for was as a weed puller for Miss Mryt's beloved flower beds! Martha Lou and I had run into eachother socially and upon hearing of my struggles as a divorcee raising a small child, she asked her mother to find work for me. I was so grateful to have a job!
Within a few short weeks the residents started showing a liking for me and I for them and as fate would have it, I was promoted and Martha Lou and I were among the very few people to be the first certified Activity Coordinators in the state of Virginia!
Miss Myrtle and her daughter gave me full rein to explore the endless possibilities of providing enriching, quality experiences for the fraile elderly in her care. Together we started numerous programs which set the bar for the Virginia Healthcare Association and through that recognition in statewide and nationwide competitions, spread our brand of care to activity professionals throughout the country! She was so proud!
I could fill a book with all the ways Miss Myrtle Faulkner and her family made my life better.I told her in that last visit that I had always admired her pluck and that she had not only been an inspiration but a hero to me. She cocked her head, put that knowing grin on her lips, attempted to touch my arm and said, "Thank you. I didn't know that!" That was the first time I heard her admit that she didn't know something...well, now she has ended life's journey and has entered the kingdom of God and she now knows all the mysteries' answers!
You will always be in my thoughts and in my heart!
