Nancy Ford Obituary

Nancy T. Ford of Newport News, age 90, passed away on February 4, 2023, trusting in the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Born in Richmond, VA, Nancy was the daughter of James L. and Mary R. Taylor. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Barry University of Miami.

Nancy was a lifelong runner and won many local races for her age group. An accomplished bridge player, she enjoyed participating in a number of her friendly bridge groups. She was an active member of Village Church and maintained and enjoyed valued friendships in her church. Nancy married her high school boyfriend, Albert C Ford, in 1953 and they enjoyed 60 years together. In 1961, they moved to Newport News where Nancy began her 30-year career in the Newport News Public School system.

Al and Nancy had two children, Leslie F. Powell (Bill) of Newport News and S. Christian Ford of Norfolk. Nannie loved and enjoyed her family and certainly her five grandchildren: Sam Powell of Nags Head, NC, Joey Powell of Phoenix AZ, John Powell of Nags Head NC, Kelly Ford of Norfolk, and Lindsey F. Bright of Richmond. She adored her five great-grandchildren, Hudson and Presley Powell of Nags Head, and Wilson, Salina, and Arlo Bright of Richmond. All of us, family, neighbors, and friends, will miss her cheerful and loving presence.

A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Village Church, 3013 Bridge Rd., Suffolk, VA 23435.

Arrangements are under the care of Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

Nancy and I shared a few things together over the years. She and I were runners and would sometime go to races together with Al being our driver. I was the Athletic Director at Ferguson and Nancy did a lot of my typing. I used to tell her `if it didn´t sound right or the spelling needed to be corrected do what you do best, correct it ` I could always depended on her. She was a good person and had a kind heart. I´m sure she is missed.

I know this is very late to be writing but the other day Nancy´s name popped into my head. I wonder how see was doing but it was sad when I saw she had passed away. She was alway positive, and had a smile, always willing to help. I was the Athletic Director and she did a lot of typing for me. We both were runners and if there was a road race anywhere around we always went together with her husband as our driver. Those were fun days, she always, always beat me in those races. I´m sure lots of people will miss Nancy. May she rest in peace.

She will be missed.. certainly enjoyed knowing her through the years at Dr. G's office. We loved to talk about books that we were reading . She was very proud of her family and was an inspiration to us all. God rest her gentle soul. May the Lord be with you. Sending much love.
