Nicholas DiMARINO Obituary
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; his great-granddaughter, Ashley DiMarino; his brother, Dominic; and sister, Phil.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Nick Jr. and his wife, Karen of Newport News; his daughter, Joanie Edwards of Hampton; his five grandchildren, Nick DiMarino III, Kathy DiMarino, Doug DiMarino, Stephen Edwards and Mark Edwards; his seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Dolores Senn of Philadelphia; and his brother, Alfred Squitiri of Danville, Va.
Nick proudly served his country for more than 20 years, serving in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. He was a founding member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and attended faithfully for more than 50 years. Pop's greatest legacy was the gift of love, generosity, and understanding that he taught all of the DiMarino/Edwards family. He will be greatly missed by all of us, as he was truly our patriarch.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, with the burial following in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606, or to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Dear Nick, Joanie, and all of the DiMarinos,
I was so sorry to hear of "Big Nick's" passing. I will always remember him shaking my hand and referring to me (in a voice larger than life) as "MISTER SCOTT!!" That greeting was always quickly followed up by him asking my mother Beth, if she was feeding me fertilizer! I was in my early teens at that time but remember it as if it were yesterday. He was a great man who will be missed and loved deeply by all who knew him. May God be with your family, and may God rest his soul.

You were truly an example of how a man should live his life. You and Gaggi Helen showed our entire family the true meaning of "family", how to love each other, treat each other, and protect each other. Everyone always comments on our family and the closeness that's easy for even a stranger to spot. You and Gaggi left a precious legacy of our family behind. A family who will continue to love and cherish each other just as you taught us. Thank you for all you have done for us, the love you always showed and the family you gave us. You inspired and touched so many lives in your 92 years, Pop. We will miss you dearly. I know you will take care of my little Ashley until I get there too. Thinking of the family in this time of great loss. May your wonderful memories be a comfort to you. I have many great memories of family holiday parties at Nick and Helen's, as well as family camping trips to Lake Douthat. These are events that can never be replaced. I know Nick will be greatly missed.

Nick was truly a gift to all who knew him. I feel honored to have known him and to call him "friend". As neighbor's for many years, not once, when I just popped in, was I treated as though I was anything but family.
He will be missed by so many, but by the grace of God he will continue to live in our hearts forever.
