Norman Randolph Mason Jr.

Norman Randolph Mason Jr, known to most as Randy or Bubba passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, age 90. He was born in Hampton, VA; at age 17 he enlisted in the Navy and four years later he moved to Washington D.C. It was there he earned a Masters Degree at George Washington University. He married Lois Carter. He was happiest when coaching his kids' swim & soccer teams. He loved preserving memories in pictures and video. In the late 1950s, the family moved to Bellevue, WA. He worked the next 30 years for Boeing as a Systems Analyst. He was fortunate enough to lend his expertise to one of the Apollo missions. As a thank you, he was presented with a print signed by the astronauts. For him, retired life meant returning to his home in Virginia as a bachelor. Spending days reconnecting with his brothers, sisters and extended family and making new friends. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his garage, and watching Nascar. He and his sister were avid Jeff Gordon fans. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman & Sallie Mason; three brothers, James, Doc & John Mason; two sisters, Helen Taylor & Lady West, all of VA and a great grandchild, Korbin Love of WA. He is survived by his son, Fred Mason (Karen) and daughter, Pamela Gaulke (Brent), both of WA; a sister, Margorie Watson (Billy) of NC; a sister-in-law, Rose Mason; six grandchildren, Lisa Love (Ryan), Chelsea Scherschel (Tim), Sara, Roland & Jackson Gaulke; and four great grandchildren, Noah, Parker, Olivia and Emelia, all of WA. Mr. Mason did appreciate the selfless care he received from staff at Morningside Assisted Living where he lived the last couple of years, even if he didn’t express it out loud. One thing for sure he made your jobs exciting and left stories to tell. A graveside service will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5th in Peninsula Memorial Park. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel, is assisting with arrangements. One of his favorite visitors was his great nephew, Miles Claar. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the National Down Syndrome Society (ndss.org).
