Mr . Prater was an assistant coach in basketball under Coach Ruell Blair at Bruton Heights.
I had the pleasure and honor to play for him and to be taught by him math.
He was a very stern man in a kind , caring and mentoring way .
He did his job well here on earth.
May You Rest Well In The Spirit World Dr.Prater !!

My condolences to Dr. Prater's family and friends. Dr. Prater, then Mr. Prater to me, taught math and physics at James Blair High School and I had the great pleasure to have been one of his students in both subjects. I only just found out about his passing from another high school friend who read about his passing. We were just talking about Dr. Prater's accomplishments after leaving JBHS a few weeks ago at our 50th year reunion. He was a great teacher, always polite, thoughtful, and kind. I wish I had been able to attend his Celebration of Life and let you all know how much he meant to me and my peers. May his memory always be a blessing.

Mr Prater was my Algebra-trigonometry teacher at James Blair HS in the early 70´s. He was an amazing teacher and made math (my worst subject) exciting . I always thought he reminded me of Sidney Poitier .He was passionate and caring . His wife Jacqueline taught music at JBHS . I am so sad to hear of his passing as I just moved back and wish I had had a chance to tell him how much he meant to me and so many other students. He had a big impact on us in the most positive sense of the word . Rest In Peace Dr Prater

Condolences to the Prater family. Remembering Dr. Prater from the sixties when he was a student at Talladega College and would frequent Westside High School to do his practicum. We considered him as a respectable person with high qualities. He will be missed.
