I have never had a friend as close as Pam. I remember Angie and John when we were growing up in the Harbor Homes. Mr. John would take our pictures. I think my mom still has one of me and my brother Darryl that Mr. John took. My mom and Miss Juanita were friends a long time ago. I remember in the summertime Pam would come to visit. I got to know her better at Menchville and we were always together. We would share clothes, chocolate milk, choke sandwiches, and Kool cigarettes. I saw her some years ago we made a pact that we would see each other by the time we were in our fifties and then I went overseas. I always thought that we would see each other again and talk about our lives our children etc., I just knew that we would see each other again. We had so much in common and we would balance each other out. My heart truly breaks for all of you and myself. I know that Pam had so much to offer she was a restless spirit that was multi-gifted. I was en route to her memorial service when I was stuck on the Coleman Bridge for two hours. I was immediately upset. However when I got out of my car and looked over at the York River it reminded me of the many bright sunny days we spent on the pier at Pinkys Beach or under the gazebo at Peterson Yacht Basin playing chess or down on Chesapeake Ave on the bench contemplating life and injustices. The time I spent on the bridge and the way the sun was shinning reminded me of my youth and my best friend. We would walk for miles and miles and talk to everyone. I did the same thing on the bridge; I stopped and talked to people. If Pam had been there she would have done that same thing. We never met a stranger. I met her husband for the first time on Monday and her children. I hope that all of you will find comfort in the good times and the impact for the better she made in many lives. I will pray for you and keep you in my thoughts everday.

Pam was my first cousin but I did not know her. I know details of her life and details of her loss. All of those details have come to this...she was a light who was shamefully lost to us. She is loved and she will be remembered Uncle John. I love you and I want you to remember that her light will deliver others...

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
