Dr. Peter Bland Anderson, 66, a lifelong resident of Hampton Roads, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 24th after a month-long battle with acute leukemia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Faye Anderson, and his nephew, Woods Anderson. He will forever be cherished by his wife of 41 years Laurie and their four children: Rebecca Christophel, Megan Klett, Stephen Anderson and Gordon Anderson, together with their spouses Jared Christophel, Mike Klett, and Torrie Anderson. He was an adored Pop Pop to ten grandchildren Ava, Samuel, Molly, and Sara Kate Christophel, Zane, Anderson, and Cora Klett, Lillian, Hudson, and Adeline Anderson. He is also survived by three loving brothers; Ward Anderson and wife Martha, Gary Anderson and wife Debbie and identical twin James Anderson and wife Dodie. He was the founding physician of Hilton Family Practice in Newport News and also served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine for both the University of Virginia School of Medicine and Eastern Virginia Medical School. He served his patients faithfully for thirty years. In 2010, he founded Team Care Medicine, a practice transformation consulting firm. He authored three books and regularly spoke at health care conferences across the United States.Peter believed meaningful relationships were the key to life. The foundational relationship that he built all others on was his relationship with Jesus Christ, a relationship that grew daily as Peter spent time in Bible study and prayer. Peter was a founding member of Operation Breaking Through, an organization working to unite churches throughout the Peninsula to meet the needs of the inner city of Newport News. Peter, along with his wife Laurie, traveled to the outskirts of Peru and Honduras to bring healthcare to impoverished areas. They also traveled to Afghanistan to further the education of the country's physicians and to bring medical equipment to areas ravaged by war. Peter was an active member and elder at Peninsula Community Chapel, where he could be found on most Sunday mornings in the parking lot welcoming visitors."You will keep on guiding me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever." - Psalm 73:24-26A visitation will be held Friday, November 30th from 6-8:30pm at Peninsula Community Chapel, 4209 Big Bethel Road, Yorktown, VA 23693. I did not know of Dr Anderson's passing until today. I am so sorry for your loss. I have never known a more caring individual then Dr. Anderson. He was our family's physician for more than twenty. As a patient and a nurse I have the utmost respect. As a believer I am grateful he is in the loving care of our Lord and Saviour.

To the family of Dr. Anderson: We were so sorry to hear of Peter's death but rejoicing because we know he is with our Lord. Dr. Anderson was our family doctor for many years. He would smile when he came into the examining room either for us or for our children and anxiety would melt away. He never acted as if he was in a hurry but we know he had many patients waiting to see him. Our daughter was diagnosed with cancer by another doctor while Dr. Anderson was our PCP. When he heard the news, he called our home one evening to apologize for not catching it at his office but, more importantly, to encourage us. He then took the time to mail us a copy of Dr. John Piper's "Don't Waste Your Cancer." We have since been able to do the same for others who have received a diagnosis of cancer. Peter was also a beautiful example to our family. We spoke once at a marriage conference. He, along with Laurie, had provided a way for his children to attend and get away. That gesture spoke tons of what he counted as important. We will continue to pray for you as you mourn his loss.

Dearest Laurie and family,

May the comfort of the Holy Spirit surround you all at this time. My memories of Dr. Peter are that He deeply loved the Lord, his family and people in general. He was a man of humility, so gracious, caring and generous. Thank you for sharing him with us!

With love to you,

My name is Dr. Tom Sinsky. I live in Dubuque, Iowa. I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. Anderson.

Peter was one of my heroes. I have been deeply saddened since learning of his death. From reading the condolences above it is obvious that Peter was a superb husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. What some might not realize is the monumental impact that Peter has made on medical care in the United States.

With his years of experience as a Family Physician, using his brilliant mind and compassionate heart Peter developed a model of patient care which, in my opinion, provides the answer to the problems faced by the American health care system today.

My wife Dr. Christine Sinsky and I first met Peter about 10 years ago when we were all featured as speakers at a meeting of Physicians in Virginia. We realized that Peter's ideas about team care were very similar to our own and we became friends.

A few years later, my wife and I along with Dr. Tom Bodenhiemer at the University of San Francisco wrote a paper entitled "In Search of Joy in Practice." As part of that study I spent a day shadowing Peter in his clinic so that I could write about his team care model which was featured as part of that study. That day was life changing for me. As I watched Peter in action I saw that there was hope for a better way to care for patients, better for the patients, the nurses, the medical assistants and physicians. Peter's love of his patients and his team and his joy in practicing medicine were contagious.

A few years later Peter and Cathi Pope and I also collaborated on a presentation to the Academy of Nursing in Philadelphia.

Through his consulting group, Peter has spread his ideas to organizations throughout the county. Our nation is beset with an epidemic of burnout among health care professionals. Peter's team care model shows us how we can move forward to not only provide excellent care for patients but also provide joy, meaning and satisfaction for the health care team.

Thank you, Peter for all you have done for so many.

I realize that there are no words to adequately comfort in this tremendous loss, that is a work only our loving God can accomplish. I do want to say that I knew Peter as not only a godly man, husband, and father but also as a kind and caring physician. His life fulfilled the purposes that God created him for and he will be greatly missed!

It was my great privilege to work for both Peter and James Anderson. The love of Christ shone through their lives. Peter always began our staff meetings with prayer and he was an example of caring and compassion to us all. The world has lost a true servant of God. He will be sorely missed.

Peter was a great doctor and friend to our family. Always kind and considerate. Our children literally had no fear of going to the doctor growing up because they trusted Peter. I will always remember our conversations on the sidelines at soccer games when our boys played together. No matter what was going on in the game our conversation would always end up about the Lord Jesus. Peter would always say God is just so good to us. Yes he is my Friend!! You will be missed. Anderson family we Love you and you are in our prayers.

Peter was a bright doctor and one of the sweetest Christian men that I have ever had the honor to know. To simply say that he was a' 'good man' falls short in expressing his wonderful spirit, character, and love for the Lord and those that he cared for.

Rest in peace, my friend.
