Richard Tyson Obituary

HAMPTON - Richard M. Tyson Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, Hampton. He was born to the late William and Emily Tyson on Nov. 20, 1922. He was a native of Elizabeth City County, Va., and a Hampton resident for 83 years. He was a graduate of George P. Phenix High School and worked for the U.S. government as a supply clerk for 35 years until his retirement. He was a founding member of Club United of Phoebus and a member of the Excelsior Mizpah Lodge #4. His wife, Eloise M. Tyson, and sons, William Tyson IV and Richard Tyson Jr., precede him in death. His memory will be cherished by his sons, Phillip Tyson Sr. of New York, James and Gerald Tyson of Hampton; daughters, Patrice Barnes and Erika Tyson, both of Hampton; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A home going service will begin at noon Tuesday, May 2, at the chapel of Smith Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Chauncey E. Mann Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton. Family and friends are asked to assemble by 11 a.m. Tuesday at 1218 Easterly Ave., Hampton. Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the funeral home. Arrangements made by Smith Brothers Funeral Home, 545 E. Mercury Blvd., Hampton – Ph: 723-4117.

Patrice and Erika,

I was saddened to learn Uncle Richard had passed but I know he is with God because he was so special. I only knew him for a short time but I loved him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. May God Bless You.

We use to be neighbors for a long time when we lived in Lincoln Park, then we all ventured out to new locations, but the Harris Family want to send their condolences out to the family. God will take care of him.
