Robert W. Jones Sr.

NEWPORT NEWS - Robert W. Jones Sr. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001. He was a native of Dinwiddie County and had been a Peninsula resident for 53 years. He retired from Fort Eustis Transportation Motor Pool and was a member of First Church of Newport News (Baptist). He was a Past Worshipful Master and present member of Providence Wing Masonic Lodge 229. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sue P. Jones; a daughter, Roberta L. Jones; two sisters and three brothers. Mr. Jones also leaves to cherish his beloved memories three sons, Robert W. Jones Jr. (Deborah) and James E. Jones of Newport News, Va., Marvin C. Jones of Bowie, Md.; two daughters, Shelia J. Tolliver (Frank) of Mitchellville, Md., and Kendra P. Minor (Vernon) of Newport News, Va.; nine grandchildren, Lamar, James Jr., Eric, Jamaal, Jason, Janine, Gerard, Keenon and Jamal; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at First Church Newport News (Baptist). Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the services at the church on Monday. Family and friends will assemble by 1 p.m. Monday at 1232 37th St. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by the family to be distributed to his favorite charities. Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home, Newport News.
