Ruth Ann Birdsall

GLOUCESTER - Ruth Ann Birdsall, 72, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at her home. She was born in Alexander, LA and was the daughter of the late Audrey Franck and Alton Gilbert Birdsall, Sr. She retired in 2008 from the Gloucester County School System as a kindergarten teacher . She was a member of Abingdon Episcopal Church, the Gloucester Retired Teachers Association, and the Farm Bureau Board. Ruth Ann dedicated her life to two of her passions --educating children and operating Burleigh Farm as a dairy goat farm. in recent years, Ruth was a regular at the Chick-Fil-A bingo on Tuesdays. She is survived by her children, Richard Alan Mellar Jr. and Cynthia Ann Pitts (James), grandchildren Drew Pitts, Sydney Pitts, and Weston Mellar, her brothers Gilbert Birdsall (Mary Helen) and David Birdsall (Chirpie), and her former husband, Richard Mellar. A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Burleigh farm. Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester volunteer Fire and Rescue. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, is in charge of arrangements.
