Shirley Cassidy Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Shirley Margaret Cassidy went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Feb.13, 2006. She was born in London, England on Jan. 8, 1936. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Brendan John Cassidy; adoptive mother, Florence Cock; four sisters, seven children and their spouses, 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other relatives and many friends. In 1940, at age four, Shirley was one of the 1.5 million children evacuated from London to the safe country side during World War I. She did not return home for ten years. Shirley made her home in the Hampton Roads area for the last 44 years. She was employed with Chase Packaging Company for over 30 years. She was an member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church where she was active in the Ladies of Carmel St. Valentine's Guild and the Hope Ministry. She also loved dancing, golf and children. Please join the family, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Roman Catholic Church, for visitation. Immediately following at 7 p.m. a Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Kenneth E. Wood. Friends and family are invited to gather at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church for prayers and then a procession to Peninsula Memorial Park., where a committal service will begin at 10 a.m. Shirley's wishes were in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 28102 or www.stjude.org. Arrangements are being provided by Berceuse Funeral and Cremation Traditions.

We would like to offer our condolences to Shirley's husband and her family. Even though it's been a couple of years since we've seen her, we enjoyed spending time with Shirley and getting to know her through her friend Judy. She was a very special lady and will be missed dearly.
