WILLIAMSBURG - Spencer Milton Overton of Williamsburg, Va. died on March 13, 2006 at Hospice House of Williamsburg. Born June 14, 1925 in Norfolk, Va. and raised in Portsmouth, Va., he was the son of the late Marvin Baron Overton and Audrey Brazenor Overton of Portsmouth. He served with the 20th Army Air Force in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. In his teens, he was a member of the Norfolk Symphony Orchestra predecessor to the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, class of 1942, he received a BA degree from the College of William and Mary and an MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania Spencer was a member of the faculty of the Carolinas School of Banking at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and the School of Business at Montclair State University, Montclair, N.J. For a number of years, he served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Elizabeth General Medical Center and was founding chairman of the Elizabeth General Medical Center Foundation. A commercial banker by profession, he was a senior vice president of the Wachovia Bank, Charlotte, N.C., senior vice president and chief loan officer of the United Counties Trust Company, Elizabeth, N.J., and president and CEO of the Eastern National Bank, Medford, N.J. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Rosemary Relph Overton, son Samuel Marvin Overton, daughter Jenny Winn Overton, and brother Marvin B. Overton Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Silvia Garay Overton; brother Michael Edward Overton and wife Judith of Riverdale, N.Y.; daughters, Toni Overton Blazewicz and husband Michael of Hopatcong, N.J., Katherine Overton Lewis and husband Peter of Hollis, N.H. and Eugenia Aguila of Santiago, Chile; sons, Dr. Leonardo Aguila and wife Daniza of West Hartford, Conn. and Dr. Rodrigo Aguila of Santiago, Chile and grandchildren, Helena Maria Overton Nevicosi and husband Jeffrey of Morrisville, N.C., Jessica Bentham Lewis of Hollis, N.H., Carolina Aguila, Nicolas Aguila, and Gabriela Aguila of West Hartford, Conn., Caterina Jadresic, Ivan Jadresic, Sofia Aguila, Beatriz Aguila, and Consuelo Aguila of Santiago, Chile. He was a member of Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, Va. In retirement, Spencer and Silvia served for many years as volunteer executives with the International Executive Service Corps with assignments in the Caribbean, Central America, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. He often remarked that without Silvia's never failing support he could not have carried out these projects. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church in Williamsburg. Interment 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Va., following the memorial service.
