Stella Miante Obituary

Stella passed away peacefully and went to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

She was born August 2, 1931, to Robert and Mary Jenkins in Gloucester County, Virginia, the ninth of 10 children. She married James (Gino) Miante on January 12, 1952, and lived in Newport News for the remainder of her life. Her parents, siblings and husband predeceased her. Stella is survived by three daughters Tina Fields, (Michael), Cheryl Matson (Bruce) and Paula Tarrant (Dennis) and six granddaughters Laura King (Matthew), Caitlin Fields, Brooke Matson (Matt Tucci), Morgan Barna (Andrew), Amy Matson and Paige Tarrant.

Stella stayed home to raise her children and then worked at Riverside Hospital in medical records administration. In her retirement she became a Master Gardener and worked as a docent at the Mariners' Museum for over 20 years. She was a devoted Christian and member of Temple Baptist Church for over 50 years joyfully participating as a faithful attendee of her Sunday School class.

Stella was fiercely loyal to her daughters and granddaughters and will be missed terribly. A sincere and heartfelt thanks to the hospice nurses and staff at The Hidenwood for the excellent care they provided.

A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park at 11 AM on Saturday, February 19, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 235 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601.

When I became her neighbor Miss Stella was so helpful to me. She offered advise and encouragement and became a friend. I missed her and her boxwoods when she moved. She loved those boxwoods

Miss Stella was my next door neighbor on Hull Street. I was sorry when she moved. We had many wonderful conversations. She especially liked to tell me what the "girls" were up to. I called her last year and we had a nice chat and caught up on the "girls" (her daughters). Rest well Miss S.
