Stephen Portnoy Obituary

YORKTOWN - Stephen Portnoy, 64, of Yorktown, Va., peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, after a long battle with Cancer.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Rochelle, he is survived by his sister, Janice Levy; his father-in-law, Max Fitzig; his two daughters, Susan and Barbara; his son-in-law, Michael; and his grandchildren, Miryam, Elisha and Robbie.
Steve was born and grew up in Washington, D.C. Stephen attended Carnegie Institute of Technology, in Pittsburgh, Pa. After college, Steve accepted a position with IBM. He retired after 30 years with IBM, and moved to York County, Va. For three years, he managed an information systems project for the Newport News Waterworks. In 1995, Steve started an IS consulting business, working with local governments, to assist them with their system needs.
Stephen loved to travel, cook gourmet meals, play on his computer and spend quality time with his family and friends. He was a dedicated member of the Jewish community.
The family would like to thank the community and hospice for all the love and support they have received during Stephen's illness.
A memorial service will be held at Rodef Sholom Temple.
Please do not send flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or to Rodef Sholom Temple.

I just received the sad news of Steve's passing. I was a neighbor, who lived across Utah Avenue in Washington, DC when we were growing up. Please accept my sincere condolences.
