Thomas Cosgrove Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Thomas Bartley Cosgrove, 73, born on July 12, 1942, passed away on October 11, 2015. He was a native of Chicago, IL and resided in Newport News/Hampton. He earned a business degree from Loyola University and attended law school at the University of Chicago, he also graduated from Command and General Staff College. Thomas retired from the Army as a LTC after 28 years. He earned many rewards and honors including; Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Master Parachutist Badge. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Bernice Schuller and Bartley Patrick Cosgrove. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Vida Ray Cosgrove and his four nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 15 at Phoebus Methodist Church with Bob Rough officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Phoebus Methodist Church and USO.
