Michael Cosgrove Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heartland Cremation & Burial Society Greater Kansas City, KS - Overland Par on Mar. 20, 2026.
Michael "Mike" Joseph Cosgrove, 77, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away March 6, 2026. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 31, 1949, and is preceded in death by his parents John J. and Mary Catherine Cosgrove.

Mike grew up in Kansas City and attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic grade school. He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1967. He played basketball in Junior College and then graduated from Rockhurst College with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

He taught high school history, owned Cosgrove's Bar on Troost from February 1987 to December 1994, and was a technician for Hill-Rom for several years. Eventually Mike ended his career at ICAN assisting adults with developmental disabilities which he found very fulfilling.

Mike and Dorothy married on September 15, 1988, and raised three successful children. Mike was a very devoted husband and father who loved his family deeply and took great pride in his children.

Mike was an avid sports lover and enjoyed cheering on the Missouri Tigers, Kansas City Chiefs, and The Royals. He enjoyed golfing whenever he could find the time. He loved listening and dancing to a variety of music…top of the list was Al Green and Hall and Oates. He was a simple, quiet man who would sometimes catch people off guard with his quick wit and dry sense of humor.

Following a cascade of health issues in 2014 and 2015, Mike entered care at Delmar Gardens where his family visited him often; he still lived there upon his passing. The family is grateful for the care Mike received at Delmar, and are especially grateful for the care administered by Caroline, Autumn, and the ACG Hospice team. We take comfort knowing he is at peace.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Cosgrove, three children, Shannon, Quinlan, and Madeline Cosgrove, and grandson, Rowan Sidebottom.

A Celebration of Life honoring Mike is planned for Saturday, May 30, from 11:30 to 2:30 at Tanner's Bar & Grill, 14337 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS.
