Tommie Stegall Obituary

MARTINSVILLE - Tommie Joe "Bud" Stegall, Jr., 83, formerly of Highland Street in Martinsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville, where he was a resident.
He was born in Axton, Va., Aug. 31, 1925, to Tommie Joe Stegall, Sr. and Annie Wade Stegall, both deceased.
He retired from Tarmac Corporation in Newport News, where he was a crane operator. He lived in Newport News for almost 40 years where he was a member of Denbigh Baptist Church and had attended Beckham United Methodist Church in Axton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Koger "Polly" Stegall, a daughter, Regina Stegall Routten, a son, Timothy Allen Stegall, two sisters, Margaret Manning and Sally Ireson.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Thomas P. Routten of Manteo, N.C., and Erin Elizabeth Routten of Hampton, Va., son-in-law, Earl P. "Buddy" Routten of Carrollton, Va.; three sisters, Jessie Maxie of Martinsville, Mary Kelley of Colorado and Dorothy Hairfield of Axton; one brother, Bill Stegall of Ridgeway.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel, with Dr. Donald Rhoton officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel.

My son and I enjoyed meeting Bud when he shared a room with my husband at Coliseum Park in Hampton. It was a pleasure talking with him every evening and getting his candy bars for him. We are sorry for your loss.
