Turner MOORE Obituary
He was known to most as "Uncle Pete" or "Pete Mo'. He was a pillar in communities, including Newsome Park, Downtown Newport News and Tidewater Senior Apartments. Pete was involved in several organizations and received many awards. He was born in Rocky Mount, N.C., on Dec. 13, 1933.
Pete was preceded in death by his father, Turner L. Moore Sr.; mother, Alice Blue; stepmother, Lillian Moore; son, Kelvin Moore; and grandson, Roland Buggs.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sonjia Strong Moore; his children, Patricia (Ralph), Beverly (Arthur), Freda (Arthur), Keith (Monica), Vincent, Kim (Clint) Marlon, and their mother, Ms. Fannie K. Moore; one brother, Robert Moore (Cellastine); one sister, Mary Augustin; 35 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; three godchildren, Pete, Shawn and Sonya; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Restoration and Faith Ministry, 2114 Wickham Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. A funeral service will be conducted at noon Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the church. Professional services entrusted by Poole's Funeral Home, 8721 Colonial Trail East, Smithfield, VA 23430-(757-357-4742). Interment will be conducted in Hampton Memorial Gardens.

Newport News has lost an icon. Pete Moore loved the community and probably did more for us than the average elected official.
As a child, I was always excited about riding the bus Mr. Pete provided to the huge Easter Egg Hunt he sponsored each year at Newsome Park.
As a teenager, he led by example and taught us the importance of hard work, education, achievement and ownership. It was imperative that we give back and encourage others. I learned so much from him.
Yes, Newport News has lost a great man.

Rest on Mr. Pete!! I am so glad that I got to stop by and see you when I was home for Christmas. You are now free from all hurt and pain; to know that makes the pain a little easier to bear!! I know you are having a blast of there cooking and working on cars!! Be sure to tell my folks, especially my Dad, that greeted you when you got there that we will see them all one day again!!!!
