William Hoots Obituary

NORFOLK - William Frances Hoots died on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Consulate Healthcare in Norfolk following a recent diagnosis of cancer.
He is survived by his devoted partner and companion, Joyce Dannemann of Norfolk and her family; his sister, Bonnie Yolkey of Belleview, Neb.; and the host of loving and caring friends, associates, and neighbors accumulated over his many years.
Mr. Hoots was born in Edneyville, N.C., and was a graduate of Edneyville High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1962 until his retirement as a Master Chief, and subsequently accomplished a successful career as a Radio Maintenance Superintendent for the City of Norfolk.
His ultimate hobbies included his love of gardening, collecting a multitude of memorabilia, and foremost, dancing. He was well known for his devotion to music and dance in its many forms. For those who have known him, he is best remembered as a kind, gentle and humorous spirit that encouraged and inspired us in our daily lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norfolk SPCA or the American Cancer Society in his honor.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood officiating. I met Bill in July of 2003 at "A Time To Dance". I knew nothing about Ballroom Dancing. He was always willing to help you and show you a few new steps. I will always be grateful for that. I spoke to Bill on February 12th and thanked him for all the dances and his kindness. He said "We had fun". He will be missed! My condolences to you Joyce.

I can't believe that I won't have another dance with Bill. He certainly was one of the most modest and friendliest men that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was a true friend to so many. My prayers and thoughts are with Bonnie and Joyce. (Bill, save me a dance when I see you in heaven - I'll miss your smile and hugs)
