William Shanks Obituary
A native of Hampton, he had been a Yorktown resident for 13 years. He was employed with Esterline Pressure Systems in Hampton for over 20-years and was a member of Westhampton Baptist Church. During his free time, he enjoyed working as an official for the USA Swimming and Southeastern Virginia Aquatics. He was a dedicated husband and father who loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judi Shanks; two daughters, Amanda and Lisa Shanks, all of Yorktown; his mother, Sandra Shanks of Yorktown; father, W.F. Shanks Jr. of Florida; a sister, Rhonda Mickelborough (Bobby) of Gloucester; aunts and uncles, Brad and Nora Ball of Yorktown, and Preston and Cheryl Shanks of Richmond; and his maternal; grandmother, Olive Ball of Yorktown.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2008, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2008, at the funeral home, officiated by Dr. Paul Parker. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Wow when I was looking up someone on facebook, I had no Idea that someone would tell me that William had died. I feel awful my prayers will be constantly with you all. So sorry for your loss. William was always nice to me and quite a funny guy.

To the Shanks,
Although we don't really communicate other than a wave across the road, please know that our hearts also ache for you and realize the sorrow you must feel at the passing of William. I will always remember that although he didn't know us, he still strongly supported us in what we are trying to do for our mom and for that we considered him friend.

My heart is deeply sadened at the passing of not just a friend but a mentor as well. Although we were not close over the past few years, William was never far from my mind. He mentored me in electronics and also in running sound at West Hampton, which, thanks to his help, I have been doing now for over 25 years. His mischevious smile and zest for life (especially during our RA camping years!) cannot be replaced. I will miss him greatly but am greatful for the time God allowed me to have with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Judi and the girls and the rest of his family, may God grant you His peace as He welcomes William home.
