Fain Sandin Obituary

Fain Lewallen Sandin

April 22, 1938 - January 10, 2025

Fain Lewallen Sandin, 86 of Stanardsville, VA, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at her home surrounded by her children. She was born on April 22, 1938, to the late William Ernest Lewallen and Frances Russell Moser Lewallen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Martin Sandin.

She is survived by her brother, William (Bill) Lewallen; her sons, Charles C. Wilson, III, Gary P. Wilson; her daughter, Kathryn (Kelly) Wilson Liner (Jim). She leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Chelsea R. Killam (Tait), Asheleigh E. S. Herring (Michael), Anna Carlini (Dom), Andrew Wilson (Mike); great-grandchildren, Haedyn Herring, Brielle Herring, and Paisley Herring.

Fain was born in Asheville, NC, and raised in Greenville, SC. She and her late husband settled in Stanardsville, VA, for the last 42 years where her home was named "Peke's Pike" after her love for the Pekingese dog breed and plans to breed them. Fain loved her pets dearly and her family and friends deeply. In return, she was loved and had high regards as the "sweetest" person by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, from near and far. There was never a mean or hateful word uttered from her lips. Fain's love, kindness, and service to others in need were her greatest gifts.

Fain and her late husband, Bruce, were best known for the years owning and operating "The Greene House Shops" in Ruckersville, VA, and being active members of the Stanardsville Baptist Church for most of their time spent in Stanardsville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on March 1, 2025 at Stanardsville Baptist Church with Tom Zakielarz officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Fain's favorite charities, St. Jude's Hospital for Children, ASPCA or similar organizations, or Turnnel to Towers in her honor.

Fain and I were "buddies" from Augusta Circle School through Greenville Senior High. We served on the high school newspaper together. She was always cheerful and nice to have around. Bill, you and your family, have my condolences. Peter Haloulos

Fain and I are first cousins. Since I live in Texas, most of our contact came over the telephone through hours-long conversations covering every topic imaginable. How often we laughed and sometimes cried!
I was fortunate enough to see her in person twice in the past several years, occasions I will remember
and cherish for the rest of my life.
She was indeed a lovely lady, both inside and out. So kind, so thoughtful, so endlessly caring -- a true
southern "gentlewoman" who will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family and friends.

Fain was a joy to work with at the bank in Stanardsville! Her kind, helpful manner was the epitome of customer service with a smile. Gary Forrest
