Dorothy Hinkes Obituary

Dorothy Hinkes

October 8, 2025

Dorothy Hinkes went home to the Lord on October 8, 2025 from her home in Etlan, Va., at the age of 91. She is survived by her husband, Bill, and eight children, 18 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.

She was born and raised in Illinois but moved to New Jersey, where she graduated with honors from St. Cecilia High School in Englewood. She had the lead in the school play and was a soloist in the Glee Club. On moving back to Illinois, she graduated from St. Xavier University as a registered nurse and was enrolled in Kappa Gamma Pi Honor Society for leadership and service. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart and she and Bill settled in New Jersey, where they raised their eight children. Dorothy also did some part-time nursing during that time. On retirement, they settled on their small farm in Etlan, where she was the church organist and sang in the choir.

Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Blue Ridge R.C. Church in Madison on Tuesday, October 14, at 10:30 a.m. It will be followed by interment at Etlan Cemetery.
