Maya Powell Obituary
She was born in Charlottesville, Va., grew up in Madison County, graduated from Madison County High School in 2021 and was a Secretary for Graves Mountain Farm & Lodges.
She is survived by her parents, George "Turtle" and Melody Powell of Culpeper and many aunts, uncles and cousins who will miss her beauty, humor and joy for life.
Described by her friends as fun, outgoing, selfless, sweet and an amazing friend, Maya was quick to sing and dance and find joy in the moment. She was an advocate for others and worked as a volunteer for MESA's Thrift Shop. Stunned by the sudden loss, family and friends remember Maya's smile and acceptance of everyone.
A family night was held at Preddy Funeral Home, Madison, Friday, July 21, 2023, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Interment was private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to one of Maya's many causes, such as The Trevor Project, (www.thetrevorproject.org) or MESA (www.mesamadisonva.org)

My heart aches for Maya´s mom and dad. I met Maya when she and my daughter, Mikayla, attended PreK together. Maya was such a sweet little girl! I haven´t seen Maya in a long time but from what I have been reading recently, she had continued to be such a sweet, caring young lady. God has gotten a beautiful Angel! Thank you Maya for being such a wonderful friend to Mikayla.

My heart aches for Maya´s mom and dad. Maya and my daughter attended preK together and was invited to a birthday party at their home. Maya was such a sweet little girl and even though I haven´t seen her in years, reading comments recently of her, I know she stayed true to being the lovely, sweet, caring girl I remembered. God has another beautiful Angel! Thank you Maya for being such a wonderful friend to my daughter Mikayla.
