Leland Colvin Obituary
Leland was born at home in Madison County, Va., on July 8, 1936 to Lillie Faulconer Colvin and Leland S. Colvin, Sr. He graduated from Madison County High School in 1954, where he played Varsity Football and Basketball. He joined the United States Army in late 1954, where he qualified as a sharp shooter. He served his country during peace time for three years before briefly attending Bridgewater College. He married Doris Garrison in 1960, raised three children, and spent most of his life in the dairy farm business. He was a self-employed dairy farmer in Madison, Greene and Louisa counties during the sixties and seventies. He was named "Outstanding Young Farmer" in 1969. He went to work for Kenwood Farms in Orange in the eighties until his retirement in 2009. Leland was an avid reader in his retirement, reading anything and everything, although his favorites were westerns and newspapers-especially the classifieds section.
Leland was preceded in death by his older brother, James Colvin, of Mechanicsville, and his granddaughter, Courtney Winston.
Leland is survived by his sister, Joyce Garrison and brother, Jerry Colvin (Marie), of Madison; former wife, Doris Holley; sons David Colvin (Wanda), Jeff Colvin (Susan), all of Louisa; his daughter, Deborah Winston (Wayland) of Goochland; grandchildren, Leanne Davis (Roger), Jeffrey Colvin (Jessica), Sydney Colvin, all of Louisa, Brittany Holmberg (Jason) of Fluvanna, Kaitlyn Colvin (Kristen) of Raleigh, N.C., Wayland Winston III, of Henrico; and four great-grandchildren, Noah, Quinn, Jeffrey, and Julie. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who referred to him as "Uncle Pruney."
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Walker's Chapel, 7402 Orange Road, Orange, VA. He was interred at Walker's United Methodist Church Cemetery.
