Raleigh Conway Obituary

Raleigh Edward Conway

July 7, 1952 - October 20, 2024

Raleigh Edward Conway, 72, of Locust Grove, Virginia, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024, after a short illness. He was born July 7, 1952, in Alexandria, Virginia to James and Helen Conway and was predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law, Irene Conway from San Francisco, California. He is survived by his brother, Charles Conway, of San Francisco, California, his brother, John Conway, and wife, Kim of Orange, Virginia, his niece, Kate Kraiwan, and husband, Max, of Warrenton, Virginia, nephew, Jesse Conway and partner, Amber, of Virginia; great nieces and nephews, Julaluk Kraiwan of Virginia Beach, Khatawut Kraiwan of Manassas, and Lalana, Thanuwat and Atsawin Kraiwan of Warrenton, Virginia.

Raleigh was a retired Radiology Technician at Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg and Mary Washington Hospital for over 40 plus years. He enjoyed many years of windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, and rowing. However, with his homeplace on Lake Anna, he spent many years enjoying those waters. Raleigh was an avid swimmer and participated in Master swim meets with his friends and enjoyed recreational swim workouts at the WARF in Warrenton.

Raleigh took an adventuresome road trip from Virginia to California and back in 2019. He enjoyed his travels by capturing photos along the way and exploring the many places that he often read and studied about. Raleigh was an avid reader with a wealth of reading material in his personal library. Raleigh thoroughly enjoyed National Geographic, PBS, the History Channel, museums, and watching his great nieces and nephews play soccer, volleyball and swim.

Raleigh has had many colleagues and friends over the years whom have expressed what a caring, trustworthy, tolerant, selfless, and genuine individual he was. He often gave co-workers the extra work hours he saved up and didn't need. He also enjoyed helping people in little ways, like buying diapers for new babies. He never met anyone he could not connect with or help if they needed it. Plus, Raleigh liked to talk and had a great sense of humor!

Raleigh loved his family, his friends, his homeplace "Conway", and will be tremendously missed. A private family interment of ashes will take place at his ancestral home and a memorial service will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.

I coached Raleigh at the YMCA and he was a good friend, I just saw him at Medical Imaging in September and he looked great.
So sad to hear of his passing

I used to work out with Raleigh at Masters Swimming. He was a good person that always had time for you and I don't remember him ever saying something bad about another person. The world lost a great person, God speed my friend!
