Thaddeus "Ted" J. Placzkouski

August 17, 1928 - August 8, 2021

Thaddeus J. "Ted" Placzkouski, Master Sergeant, United States Army – Retired, left his worldly home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at Charlottesville, Virginia.

Ted was born on August 17, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Walter F. Placzkowski and Bronislava Sikorski Placzkowski.

Ted was a member of University Baptist Church where he was a member of the Seekers Bible Study Group.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie Proffitt Chewning of Charlottesville; daughter, Karin Merrill and her husband, Lt. Cdr. Wayne R. "Skip" Merrill, U.S. Navy – Retired, of Unionville, Va., and daughter, Arlene R. Anderson of Winchester, Va.; grandson, John Campbell and great-granddaughters, Isabella, Amelia, and Melanie Campbell of Stafford, Va.; grandson, Joshua Campbell of Webster, N.Y.; granddaughter, Emily Frock and husband, Scott, of New Orleans, La.; stepdaughter Lee Reinhardt and her husband Commander Peter Reinhardt, US Navy – Retired, of West Palm Beach, Fla., and step grandchildren Catherine Shake and her husband, Bill, and children Dillon and Morgan of Fairfax, Va., Lt. Colonel Bradley Greaver, US Army, and his wife, Laura, and children Anabelle, Max and Violet of Tampa, Fla., and Lauren Fernandez and her husband, John, and children, Sophia and Brooke of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and step daughter Sally Chewning of Buckingham, Va.; and many nieces and nephews in the Midwest. "Opa" loved and enjoyed all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his father and mother, Ted was preceded in death by his first wife, the late Emma Braun Placzkouski; seven sisters, Alfreda Wolski, Irene Menclewicz, Marie Albrecht, Lorraine Placzkowski, Gladys Placzkowski, Isabelle Placzkowski, Domicella Placzkowski; and his brother, Edmund W. Placzkowski.

After graduating high school, Ted worked as secretary to the treasurer of the Chicago Great Western Railway Company in Chicago, Ill. Ted retired from the United States Army in 1968 with more than 20 years of honorable service. His assignments included 11 years in Germany as personal secretary/enlisted aide-de-camp to various Seventh Army Corps, 10th Infantry Division Generals as well as Deputy Commander of the United States Continental Command at Fort Monroe, Va. He also served with the Staff Judge Advocates of various units as Chief Legal Clerk in Europe, Korea and the United States.

Ted also served another 22 years with the United States Civil Service with the U.S. Postal Service, Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Army in the Pentagon, and as Deputy Clerk of Court United States Army Court of Military Review (Appellate Court), retiring permanently in October 1990. He resided in Dale City, Va., Orange, Va., and then Charlottesville, Va., in retirement until his death.

Private burial services will be held at the Quantico National Cemetery.

I send my sincere condolences to Ted´s family.
I joined the Sunday Bible Class, the Seekers Class that Nettie and Ted founded and they were a delight and added so much engagement about Christian living for all of us. He will be missed.
