Ann Harrod Obituary

Ann Edzell (Snyder) Harrod, 84, of Keswick, Virginia, died on December 17, 2022, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Born on August 5, 1938, in Frankfort, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Drs. William Seth and Grace Bryan (Rollins) Snyder. She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Dr. James Russell Harrod; her brother, Dr. William Bradford Snyder; and her sister, Jane Lindsay (Snyder) Marshall.

Ann graduated from Vassar College in 1960 and completed in 1961 the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in Business Administration, the precursor to Harvard Business School's enrolling women. She worked as a research analyst in New York and then as a stockbroker in Lexington, Kentucky. Upon moving to Minnesota in 1968, she began working as a registered tax return preparer, work she continued throughout her life. After passing the rigorous Certified Financial Planner (CFP) exam, she also became a CFP in 1987.

Ann deeply loved her surviving sons, Dr. Steven Seth Harrod and Dr. Andrew Earl Harrod, Esq., and grandchildren, Stuart Thomas Harrod and Clara Grace Harrod. Personally frugal, she was a generous, devoted philanthropist and volunteer, deeply committed to her alma mater, Vassar College, as well as other higher education institutions, including the alma maters of her father (William and Mary) and mother (Randolph-Macon Women's College, now Randolph College). Her lifelong passions, included photography and travel with Vassar groups and her sons, who, with her, studied railroads in conjunction with the National Railway Historical Society and visited historical sites.

Of special memory to Ann are all her caring Glenmore neighbors, her Vassar classmates, who will miss her resilient, witty and vibrant spirit, and fellow congregants at Keswick's Grace Episcopal Church. Rector G. Miles Smith will hold a 2 p.m. funeral service there on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Her remains will be interred at Frankfort Cemetery in Kentucky at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 43, Keswick, VA 22947.

I met Ann in Egypt and enjoyed our association. She kept in touch every year. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. She was a great friend on that Experiment in International Living. Sincerely, Barbara Russell Carter
