Bella Burnett Obituary
She is survived by her three children, Jennifer Woodward (Petey), Thomas Burnett, and Susan Holtzman (David); along with her siblings, Denise Dize (Norman), Andy Parks (Stuart), and Kenneth Parks (Naomi). She was blessed with five grandchildren, Ricky Laird Jr. (Caitlin), Shelby Laird, Henry Holtzman, Cora Holtzman and Rivka Holtzman; and four great grandchildren, LJ, Arlen, Jennifer and River, all of whom survive to cherish her memory.
Bella was a proud native of Tangier Island and graduate of Tangier Combined School. She later graduated from Longwood College, and then found a second home in Greene County where she was deeply involved in her community both as a member of Spring Hill Baptist, in Advance Mills, and as a healthcare provider having graduated from Piedmont Virginia Community College and achieving her lifelong dream of earning her nursing degree in 1997.
She had a deep and abiding faith that showed in everything she did; from her involvement with her church, to her service to her community as a public health nurse, but most of all in her dedication to her family.
An accomplished gardener, she was particularly well known for her abundant beds of springtime bulbs of all sorts and colors. She was a wonderful cook and a skilled quilter. Many of her recipes and loving creations remain with the family and will be cherished for years to come.
A funeral service honoring her life will be held at her church home, Spring Hill Baptist Church in Advance Mills at 2:00 p.m. on Monday January 5, 2026, with Pastor Steve Nethery officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church for all who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bella's name may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont at www.hopva.org.
