Jean was born to Bruce J. and Luella (Bagley) Holmberg in River Forest, Ill. where she was raised along with her two cherished brothers, Dick and Tom. She roller skated to and graduated from Rosary College. She married William "Bro" Brokamp in 1949 and they remained a devoted couple until Bro's death in 2000. Jean was ambitious, hard-working, kind, independent and resilient. She took normal human suffering in stride; she was not a practitioner of self-pity and she balanced this by being a woman of strong faith. She was both frugal and generous. She loved people and was always interested in meeting new ones. She enjoyed hearing their stories, creating new friendships and maintaining old ones. She was a good mother and a successful career woman long before the feminist movement came of age. She helped woman from all walks of life gain financial independence. She will be greatly missed by many. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to NelsonCountyPantry.org.
