Carol Fisher Obituary

Carol Woodard Fisher

January 2, 1941 - May 23, 2025

Carol Woodard Fisher, wife of Gerald Edward Fisher, died May 23, 2025, in Albemarle County, Va. after a brief illness. Born Carol Ann Woodard on January 2, 1941, to Charles Shofner Woodard and Cornelia Mary (Cook) Woodard, in El Dorado, Ark., she lived as a child in Greenville, Texas, and Coral Gables, Fla.

Following high school, Carol took the train alone with one suitcase to matriculate at Duke University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics, Phi Beta Kappa. Hired by IBM, she was one of the company's first women systems engineers, assisting IBM customers with using their "Big Blue" computers.

Carol married William Clyde Gouldman II in 1964, in Coconut Grove, Fla. Carol and Clyde raised two sons, William Clyde Gouldman III and Carl Clements Gouldman together for 10 years, then as a team of four loving parents after Carol married Gerry in 1978. Carol landed as a corporate executive on the leadership team at the Michie Company where she spent the bulk of her career.

Carol and Gerry were soul mates who enjoyed traveling, puzzling, birding, and history. Her only sibling, Gordon Cook Woodard, and her parents, predeceased her. She leaves her devoted sons, Will and Carl; Carl's wife, Elizabeth Turrentine Gouldman; and two grandchildren, Hadley Fox Gouldman and Sawyer Cook Gouldman. Also mourning her passing are Gerry and his children, Robert Fisher (Lara) and Linda Thornton (Joe); his grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, and Rachel Thornton, Rebekah (Dan) Keathley and Hannah Barton; and his great-grandchildren, Owen and Sadie Keathley and Elsie and Emerson Barton.

A graveside gathering was held for family and friends on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Monticello Memory Gardens.
