Cecil Claude Berry GRAVES MILL, VA - Cecil Claude Berry traveled to his heavenly home, Tuesday, December 10, 2013. He was born March 27, 1922, to his parents, Muscoe Columbus Berry and Mary Susan Berry (nee-Marks) in Madison County. Cecil lived within the Graves Mill area, of Madison County, his entire life. He was a carpenter, a general handyman, and a good friend to all. He served his country admirably during World War II where he earned several military honors. Staff Sergeant Berry saw action within the European Theatre and specifically, was in the Ardennes Offensive--the Battle of the Bulge--in the Rhineland Campaign. On February 19, 2013, Cecil was presented with the highly distinguished Bronze Star for his meritorious service during the war and on December 3, 2013, he was presented the prestigious "Fourrag?re 1940" award. This award was established to honor the bravery which specific units of the United States Army displayed during World War II. At 11 a.m. on Thursday December 19, 2013, friends will gather to honor Cecil's life at Fairview Christian Church, 1893 Wolftown-Hood Road, Madison, Virginia. At 12 p.m., the Memorial Service (no graveside) will be conducted by Pastor Jeffrey C. Schroeder and the Rev. Henry Aylor. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #157-Madison. At the conclusion of the service, a light luncheon will follow within the church fellowship hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Christian Church P.O. Box 19, Hood, VA 22723 and/or the Madison County Rescue Squad P.O. Box 868, Madison, Virginia 22727 Cecil was a true American hero and a friend. He is deeply missed!
