Charles Pearce Obituary

Charles Hale Pearce

December 9, 1975 - September 8, 2025

The Pearce family regrets to share the passing of Charlie Pearce. Charlie passed away from heart failure September 8, 2025, in Vallejo, Calif., at the age of 49.

Charles Hale Pearce was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but spent most of his childhood years in and around Charlottesville, VA. His childhood friends knew him as Chuck, but he was known as Charlie for his entire adult life. And, of course, Uncle Charlie.

Charlie was the best athlete most of us had ever seen, and he was also incredibly sharp. But he had more interesting things to do with his life than sports and formal education, and he very much paved his own path. Charlie lived in some of the most exciting places in the U.S., including New Orleans, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, as well as several places in the San Francisco Bay area. In recent years, he spent a lot of time in the Lake Tahoe area, on the Nevada side. Charlie was a life-long motorcycle enthusiast and owned three different Harleys during his life, and he also grew to love off-roading and built the ultimate off-road vehicle, which he named Shadow. Charlie and Shadow conquered many trails, including several sections of the notorious Rubicon Trail.

Charlie was an accomplished commercial diver, welder, and foreman, running many dive and construction crews throughout his career. His most recent job was at Borden Steel in California, where he worked for over seven years. He was a friend and mentor to countless people over his career. His impact was significant, both on the business and the lives of his crew.

Charlie's family meant the world to him. He is survived by both his parents (Mary Lee and Thomas) as well as three siblings (Beth and husband Jeff, Tom and wife Beth, and John), one niece (Hannah and husband Joe), and six nephews (Zack and fiancée Sarah, Ben, Austin, JD, Carlito, and James), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by grandparents James and Mary Kate Pearce and Durward and Virginia Hale.

You will be missed, Charlie, and will live on in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We know you are in a better place.

Your son, brother, uncle, friend, and companion Chuck, as I always knew him, was a legend from about 15 minutes after I met him at age 9. He was cooler than us, more mature, more handsome, WAY better at every sport, stronger, and always so interesting and intriguing. I am so sorry to hear this news and I want to send love and light to chuck´s family who will miss him the most. I´m sorry, too, that our lives took us on different paths and that I didn´t get to share all of his many adventures. I think fondly of all of your family and hope you may watch down upon us all in peace.

Chuck, you were an athletic phenom. I enjoyed watching you play Little League and enjoyed also having your brother, John on our team. Your parents and the rest of your family were always your biggest supporters and i'm surely were just as surprised at your passing as I am.
Bless you Charlie and the rest of your family.
