Clark Bechtle Obituary

Clark Moore Bechtle

February 21, 1992 - December 5, 2024

Clark Moore Bechtle, 32, of Charlottesville unexpectedly passed away on December 5, 2024, after a brief illness.

Clark, a native of Charlottesville, was born on February 21, 1992, to Mark Bechtle and Marianne Andrews.

Clark was a graduate of Western Albemarle High School and The Citadel, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in May 2016. After graduation, Clark went on to work as a Behavioral Counselor at the Keswick School, a Regional Development Officer at Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia, founded WeGrow in Scottsville, Virginia, and most recently was the Director of Development at Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA).

Clark married his high school sweetheart, Kelsey (McClary) Bechtle. Together they grew a beautiful homestead in Scottsville, full of life and joy through animals, plants, and of course, mushrooms.

Clark was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marianne Andrews; his maternal grandfather, Stafford Andrews; and his paternal grandfather, Walter Bechtle.

Clark leaves behind his loving wife, Kelsey Bechtle; their furry companions, Juno, Jefferson, Tucker, Ma'am, and Patches; his father, Mark Bechtle; his mothers, Marianne Andrews and Ann Gayhart; and two brothers, Andrew Bechtle and Ford Bechtle.

The family will host a Celebration of Clark's Life from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at The Old Metropolitan Hall at 101 E Main St., Charlottesville, VA 22902. There will be a time of sharing; please come prepared with your favorite short memory of Clark if you are willing to share.

Please consider sharing Clark's love for philanthropy through a memorial donation in his honor to the Quarry Gardens at Schuyler. https://quarrygardensatschuyler.org.

Dear Mary Ann and Biz,

I was so sorry to learn of your son´s death. Knowing both of you, albeit it many years ago, I know Clark was a much loved, fine young man. There is little I or anyone else can say to erase the sorrow you are carrying. Please accept my condolences and know that I wish you both the blessings of his love and life.

Dear Marianne and Ann, I am so sorry to learn about Clark's passing. Although he and Reid have not kept in touch since they graduated in 2010, Reid remembered enjoying their friendship as kids and was also saddened to hear about this. Sincerely, Cleve

I knew Clark from the BRMS mushroom club, and I am still in disbelief at his sudden passing. Such a generous and lovely soul. Just a few months ago, in October, we were on the club foray together, finding a cache shrimp of the woods hidden under a pile of leaves. He was so happy. I also saw how excited Clark was to attend the West Virginia foray in September, enthusiastically offering to share food with everyone. Whenever I saw him he was always ready with a warm hug and lots of observations to impart. He also attended our spring "mushroom melodies" gathering at Lina and Isaac´s both years, bringing his energy and his homemade mead to share around the campfire with pride. Clark clearly basked in the fun of it all, in mutual enthusiasm for fungi, for the natural world, and for all of what caring for the earth means for our lives in these times. We will miss him so much, his bright smile and sparkling eyes are imprinted in my mind. My deepest condolences to Kelsey, Clark´s parents, and all who knew him. A person who had so much to give to the world and the future; such a loss.
