Craig Travis Obituary

Craig Stauffer Travis, a descendant of William Barret Travis of Alamo fame, passed peacefully from this world on August 17th, 2023. In addition to his parents, Charles and Anna, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Max Earl and Charles Marvin.

Craig is survived by his wife, Robin, who was the Joy of his life. Through all 47 years of marriage, Craig was fond of telling others, "She is as lovely as the day I asked her to go steady in high school."

He is also survived by: his daughter, Sarah Davidson and her husband Ian, grandchildren Cora and Samuel; his son, Sterling Travis and his wife Alexandra, grandchildren Finley and Annabelle; his sister, Joyce Aument; his devoted, life-long friend, Billy Cokes; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins whom he loved.

Craig graduated from Lane High School and attended PVCC, all while working at Stacy's Music Shop. He was a founding member of The Houserockers Band and played with Blue Ice, Blue Bird, Steeple, Fantastic Shuffle Band, and his own East Coast touring band, High Degree.

Craig spent his professional career as an Insurance Executive for the East Coast with Aon Corporation for nearly 17 years and later as a local Charlottesville agent. Craig devoted many years of his time and support to his community, whether through serving as vice president of the Monticello High School Athletic Boosters, president of the Falcon Club, or through acts of service for his church, First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing (holding several citations), golf, a fine cigar, cruising, and travel. Most notably, he loved annual trips to NYC with Robin and family time spent in Ocean City, Maryland. A lifelong nature lover, he found many hours of pleasure in retirement, watching and caring for the wildlife in their backyard and building birdhouses.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of the Piedmont.

A celebration of Craig's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Park Street in Charlottesville on Tuesday, September 5th, at 1 p.m.

Robin, so very sorry for your loss. Remembering you and Craig since the fall of 1970. Seeing you all through the years, dances, weddings and etc. Craig was very giving of his time, especially at Monticello High School. He was a very talented singer and musician, and will be greatly missed. Prayers and sympathy at this sad time in losing the love of your life.

My first memory of Craig was seeing him at Lane High School as a real cute, quiet guy I'd pass in the hallways. Then all of a sudden, I always saw him with his arm around his beautiful girlfriend, Robin as they walked to class. I always admired their love story. And loved to see him playing in The Houserockers. My deepest sympathies go out to Robin and the rest of his loving family. RIP Craig.

Craig and his family were across the street neighbors for my family on Cedar Hill Rd. I was in high school while he was a boy. He was a fun little kid, always smiling. My condolences to his wife and family.

I feel like I just lost another brother. We were so close growing up together and having our neighborhood adventures. I was truly blessed growing up across the street from Craig and his family. I have so many memories beginning with being in 1st grade together at Meriweather Lewis school. My condolences go out to Robin and the rest of his family

My deepest condolences to this family. They have been part of my life for over 40 years and during that time I watched the kids being born and then as they had children. I will truly miss Craig. Such a great guy and so dedicated to his family.

Robin and Family,
I am so sorry about the loss of Craig. We didn't cross paths much over the years but, when we did, it was always with a genuine smile and a story or three! I know you will miss him as will those who knew him. He has already started the Heaven Rockers Band, I am sure.
With sympathy,
David
