Diane Mort Obituary

Saturday, January 14, 2023, Diane Mort of Charlottesville, left this world and was set free from the suffering of cancer. Diane will be remembered for her beautiful smile, graciousness, style, and love of her family and friends. She was a voracious reader who loved a good crime mystery.

Diane was born in Philadelphia, on October 1, 1962. She lived in Pennsylvania until her family relocated to Charlottesville area in 1979. Diane finished high school at Western Albemarle and then attended Piedmont Virginia Community College.

Diane worked for an upscale, European boutique, Palais Royale/ Yves Delorme in Charlottesville where she was able to use her artistic eye in creating displays. She quickly moved into management in a store in Annapolis, Md. and opened and managed a new store in Richmond, Va. Her move to Richmond allowed her to take her nephew for rides in the convertible for ice cream, securing her title as the cool aunt.

Diane was then fortunate to be able to stay home for a few years after the birth of her son, Chris. She was a devoted mother, celebrating every milestone and creating new and engaging opportunities for her son.

Upon her return to the work force in the fall of 2002, Diane worked as an Account Executive for the Albemarle Magazine. This job suited her well and further ingrained her love for Charlottesville. She then transitioned to Agency Manager for Mad Marketing, LLC.

Diane was incredibly fit and worked out daily for most of her adult life. It was at the gym where she met her future husband, Kyle Gordon. They married on July 30, 2011 at the Albemarle Courthouse.

Having worked in advertising sales for over a decade, Diane was ready for a change and moved to the tile and flooring industry. She began working for Wainwright Tile and Stone in 2012 and continued when the business was purchased by Morris Tile Distributors of Richmond. Her artistic eye, fabulous style and desire to help people made her a stand-out Design Consultant. Plus she was a bit of a DIY home renovator herself. She loved her job and work family. She was extremely grateful for their support when she had to take a leave of absence. She is remembered by clients for her warmth, knowledge of product and commitment to service.

In 2019, she was ecstatic to become Nonna to an adorable grandson, Creedence (Creed) Cucchiara and to welcome his mom, Melissa Stone, into the family. Diane never lacked photos and happy stories of her pride and joy, Creed.

Diane is survived by her husband, Kyle Gordon; her devoted son, Chris Cucchiara; her grandson, Creed Cucchiara; her father, Dewey J. Mort; three brothers, Steve Mort (Parrish), Jeff Mort (Karen Hsu), and Dave Mort (Maura); three nephews, two nieces, one great nephew; and Betty, the kitten that brought comfort and joy the past couple months.

A service and celebration of Diane's life will be held at Unity of Charlottesville on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local ASPCA in her memory. Diane adopted all her feline fur babies from the ASPCA.
