Duane B. Hopper

September 10, 1946 - April 14, 2021

Duane B. Hopper of Charlottesville, Va., died on April 14, 2021. He was 74 years old. He and his dearly beloved wife, Anne Delatour, were married in 1976 and raised two children, Leslie and Mark. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Obed and Nan Hopper.

Duane is survived by his wife Anne of 45 years; brothers, Jim and Beverly Hopper, and Mike and Biki Hopper; and nephews.

He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1968. At the University, his activities included Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, WTJU-FM, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Air Force ROTC. During his 3rd and 4th years at UVA, he also held part-time jobs.

Upon graduation from UVA, Duane was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He was a combat flight crew member in Southeast Asia during 1970-71 and was awarded three Air Medals.

Subsequently he earned a Master of Management Degree at Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Evanston, Ill., in 1974.

His career afterwards included executive roles with several healthcare products companies.

In 1988, he joined Graphic Controls Corporation, becoming President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Operating Officer of that corporation in 1992. He subsequently led negotiations in 1998 for the sale of the corporation to a Fortune 500 company.

Anne and Duane then moved to Charlottesville, Va. in 1999. From their Virginia homes, they enjoyed many activities such as trips to Anne's native France and other destinations in Europe and North America. They especially loved spending time with their family which includes their daughter, Leslie and her husband, Josh; their grandchildren, Charlotte and Ari; and their son, Mark.

Duane's ashes will be entered at the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.

I have not seen Duane in approximately 15 years but I cherish the time we spent together. May he now be at peace. God Bless.
