L. Bailey Obituary
L. EDWARD BAILEY, Sr.
November 26, 1937 - January 30, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Lester Edward "Ed" Bailey Sr., on January 30, 2026, at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Ed was a devoted husband, cherished and dedicated family member, who touched many lives with his gentle touch and warmth.
Born November 26, 1937 in Amherst County, Va., to Lester and Ruth Bailey, preceded in death. He attended University of Virginia and graduated with a double major in Economics and Accounting. He worked as an accountant until retirement. Ed met the love of his life and married Thelma Crowder in May 1961. He overcame a lot of adversity throughout life while always staying positive and optimistic, his tenacity an inspiration.
He was a good Christian man and devoted husband to Thelma for 65 years, a proud father to Ed Jr. (Hannah), and Pam (Brent); and a loving grandfather to five grandchildren Jacob, Maddie, Jossi (Ed), and Kalena, Kelsey (Pam) who were the light of his life and sister Madeline. Loved doing everything with the family, watching Virginia sports, playing slot machines, trips to Charles Town, Smokey Mountains, South Carolina and Florida.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held on February 21, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church, 1325 Rio Rd. E., Charlottesville, VA 22901. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Northside Baptist church.
No words can express the pain the family has for his loss. A true Southern Gentleman in every way. He could always be counted on for sage advice, a kind word and a gentle and wise view of life's trials and tribulations. He was an anchor in a wild world. Ed, Dad, Pop, Papa and Grandpa, will be deeply and sorely missed for his engaging, wise and insightful conversations, perseverance, tenderness, kind-heartedness, caring, comforting, considerate, patient, selfless, amiable and understanding. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
