Not sure what to say?

One of Skip's fondest memories of his mom initially occured in the fall of 1999. Barbara came up to Gloria's old farmhouse on Rosebrook where Skip was living at the time. Doug was there that day also. Skip fixed a big brunch and they shot skeet that afternoon. He laughed about it all night. He said if he had a videotape of his mom shooting those skeet he would be watching it and laughing at it that very moment.

Skip was big on manners in children towards anyone they new. I, on the other hand only teach this formality toward guests and strangers. He would want Aerielle to say thank you and please after or before most sentences, she would grant his request while around him. I tell Aerielle how beautiful she is several times a day, and Skip would, too. Around the middle of December we were all sitting in the living room and Skip said, "You sure are a pretty little girl." She was coloring and barely looked up. She shrugged her shoulders and said, "Yeah, I know." Skip slowly turned his head toward me, cut his eyes in my direction, I can still see him and that extra-personality look on his face. I shrugged my shoulders and laughed at him.

Skip talked of Doug non-stop. Doug and baseball, Doug and hunting, Doug and the gifted program, Doug and golf. Skip had one memory from years ago that he would repeatedly tell and laugh about. Doug's name is Edwin Douglas Smoot, III. Skip said when Doug was little and first started saying it, it always came out: Eddin Dougas Moot de Turd. Skip would laugh and laugh.

SKIP AND AERIELLE PICKING SQUASH

The only garden Aerielle's ever been in was Skip's. She loved it, they really bonded out there. He would have 15 tomatoes sunning on the railing of the back deck and let her pick out which one she wanted to eat that night. On Mother's Day, 5-8-05, he didn't have any tomatoes, so before we got there he ran to the vegetable stand and got a paper bag filled with them for her. There was no garden this year, I asked why, he said he was moving.

Skip was the best friend/neighbor there could have ever been. He always had a smile and a wonderful laugh to make even my worst days better. My best memory will be the day I was so very down from a break up with a boyfriend and he sat in his yard and talked me right out of my blues. May God bless all of Skip's family and friends with peace and love. We will miss him.

"It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins." 2 Maccabees, Chapter 12, Verse 46

God full of mercy who dwells on high
Grant perfect rest on the wings of Your Divine Presence
In the lofty heights
of the holy and pure
who shine as the brightness of the heavens
to the soul of Skip,

Silly Daddy with Aerielle

When I got these photos back, this one was my least favorite, I never even showed it to Skip. I thought, "What an awful picture." But now it's one of my favorites, because I can see him being silly with her, and I can see him looking at me, and I see the real Skip.

SOCKS AND SHOES

It always surprised me how Skip's pride would vanish when playing with Aerielle. We'd have him painting her toenails or she'd stick glittery stickers all over him. There's not a thing he wouldn't do to entertain her. He was the best dad he could be, every time he got the chance. He would compliment her endlessly and to repay his kindness she would talk about him as if he were royalty.

I will always remember that little freckled face and sweet smile. Skip could always make a person laugh even as a child. Mom and Dad always thought he was so cute growing up. He always had a wave for them when he passed by. May you know that our family is reaching out with our heartfelt prayers to all of you at this time. Temple and family

Skip was a dear friend to our entire family. My hushand (Dyke Builders Inc) worked with Skip where ever he may have worked. They laughed together called each other a few choice names and went on day after day. He rented from us one time and we loved him. His son Doug was so quite and Skip so out going. Our hearts are broken and our pray's are with you. He will be missed greatly and we will always have a place in our hearts for Skip. My hushand said no-one will ever replace Skip as a salesman.

He was a very special person.

God Bless the family of Skip Smoot.
