Ellen Evangeline Thelma Jones Whitlock

Ellen Evangeline Thelma Jones Whitlock, 99 years of age, of Charlottesville, Virginia, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Ellen was born on March 11, 1923, in Batesville, Virginia, to the late Estes Jones and Etta Brown-Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Whitlock of Charlottesville, Virginia, and her oldest daughter, Roberta Whitlock Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Ellen was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for 80 years where she served as a deaconess for more than 50 years. She was responsible for communion preparation for more than 60 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Mary Tompkins and husband, Michael, of Midlothian, Virginia, and Elizabeth Whitlock of Glen Burnie, Maryland; son-in-law, Philip Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia; cherished loved one, Tammy Washington of Charlottesville, Virginia; and four grandchildren, Edward Jones of Washington, D.C., Alexis Tompkins, and Crystal Tompkins Nock, of Midlothian, Virginia, and Kenyon Royster of Glen Burnie, Maryland. Her loving great-grandchildren are Portia Jones of Richmond, Virginia, Quintin Jones of Troy, Virginia, Idailis Rush, Angel Williams, and I'ljah Jones of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Reigna McKenzie of Midlothian, Virginia, three great great-grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Oakwood Cemetery. The Reverend Lehman Bates officiating.
